LIVER CAKE
(To be cut in pieces and used as treats)

Ingredients:

  • 1 lbs of beef liver

  • 2 cups of white flour

  • 2 cups of corn flour

  • 2 eggs

  • milk

  • 2 tbsp. of Instant chicken stock mix

(Alternative recipe for dogs on the Natural Rearing Diet: replace the white flour with rolled oats, passed in the coffee grinder replace the corn flour with the three-cereal-mix replace the chicken stock with the herb-mix.)

Preparation:

- Pass the liver in the blender
- Mix the liver, the eggs and the chicken stock mix (or the herb-mix)
- Pour the mixture into a big mixing bowl and add the white flour (or the ground rolled oats)   and the corn flour (or three-cereal-mix), and while beating with a mixer, add enough milk to get the consistency of brownie dough
- Grease a 9 x 13 pan and pour in the dough
- Cook for one hour at 350 degrees Fahrenheit
- Let it cool off and then cut it up into little pieces.

The pieces should be kept in the freezer. Only take out enough for two to three days and keep that in the refrigerator.

GOOD LUCK ! !

COOKIES

Ingredients:

  • 1 ¾  cups  whole-wheat flour
  • 1 ¼  cups  rolled oats
  • 1 ¼  tbs.  corn or sunflower oil
  • 1 cup  water

Lightly oil a baking sheet.

Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl. Stir oil into water and add to dry mix. Mix until well blended. Dough should be firm and not too sticky.  Add flour or water as needed to get the correct texture.

Preheat oven to 300˚F.

Lightly oil a shaping surface. Spread dough until it is about one centimetre thick. Using cookie cutters, shape dough and place onto baking sheet. Bake for about one hour. Cool and serve.

Variation : To make the cookies more interesting you can add a few raisins and ¼ tsp. of cinnamon, or add one shredded carrot and ¼ tsp. of powdered garlic.

Replacement : For dogs that have trouble with wheat, you can replace the whole-wheat flour by rye flour.

Tuna Treats

Here is one of my favourite training tools. Quick and easy to make,

these treats are practical when you’re on the run!

Ingredients:

  • One can of light tuna in water (184g), drained
  • 1 ½  cups white or whole-wheat flour
  • One egg
  • A bit of milk

Preheat oven to 375˚F. Blend egg and tuna. Add flour and mix until you get a uniform consistency. If the mix seems a bit dry add a bit of milk. Pour mixture into a 7”X7” greased pan. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until you can insert a fork in without it sticking. Cool and cut into desired sizes.
